Call for Student’s Applications: “Transformations and Visions: Responses, Alternatives and Resistances to Large-scale Land Deals in the Global South”

From 23/05/2018 to 25/05/2018 the Lands of the Future Initiative together with the Anthropology Department of McGill University (I-CAN Project) is coorganizing an international workshop at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology in Halle/Saale:

Transformations and Visions: Responses, Alternatives and Resistances to Large-scale Land Deals in the Global South (conference outline)

For three days we will bring together a select group of 30 engaged, interdisciplinary scholars and practitioners who are working on land deals in different countries in the Global South, to present case studies and ideas that describe reactions and alternatives to large-scale land deals for commercial or conservation purposes. We are providing 6-8 spaces for students to accompany the workshop as “student rapporteur”. Student rapporteurs will attend selected panels to document the discussions in a final report. Student rapporteurs will have the opportunity to get to know international experts, scientists and activists with long term engagement in land use, conservation, pastoralism, land investment, human rights, subsistence economy and food security. Applicants have to be fluent in English.

If you would like to participate in this international workshop, please get in touch with Christina Gabbert.
